On all the worthy paths one can take. The charlatans will be hiding in the bushes, ready to offer the tired traveler a place to rest. A resting place I describe as the Unaccountable Zone!
Putting aside critical thinking in favor of fantasy dreaming will gain momentum in the minds of those looking to remain comfortable, and unaccountability is always comfortable.
So, why do those determined to stay relevant participate in anything that welcomes unaccountability? I believe when bars are raised, those who can not reach new heights are eager to look for lower bars.
If one looks at successful organizations, one will see a commonality of accountability and bar-raising. These organizations are dedicated to being exceptional, and exceptionality has zero tolerance for unaccountability.
Accountability is their full-time culture.
During an industry's disruption, which applies to many industries today, organizations must be vigilant to avoid unaccountable rest stops. Remembering its unaccountability that nourishes failure.
Disruptive times can also give birth to unrealistic optimism. Optimism can be the fuel to drive innovation. However, like all fuels, it can also explode when its octane is too powerful for the motor.
The Aspirations of unrealistic optimism are born and die in the space between dreams and unaccountability.
Those who achieve their dreams discover that achievement in the space between optimism and accountability.
So, if you are ready to escape the comfort of unaccountability, you must muster the strength to challenge the merits of your unaccountable achievements and those of any charlatans who manipulated you when you were once weary on the path toward relevance.
In closing, one should constantly evaluate how empty their trophy closets would be if accountability to actual merits were the winning criteria.
Status quo is the killer of all that will be invented.
